Multipath Signal Assessment in the High Sensitivity Receivers for Vehicular Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Generally, the GPS-only navigation system cannot provide an accuracy level that is sufficient for use in vehicular applications in all environments. Specifically, in urban canyon environments where the presence of large buildings leads to frequent shadowing of signals, several multipath peaks can potentially exist in the correlator outputs. To this end, it is worth characterizing the multipath peaks to enhance the performance of high sensitivity receivers. To this end, a peak removal process is employed to separate the multipath and noise peaks from the line of sight signals in block correlator outputs. In so doing, Doppler errors and path delay errors of multipath peaks are assessed. The effect of the block correlator (search space) size on measurement accuracy is also included.

Compared to the various effects which degrade GNSS performance in general, nowadays multipath propagation accounts for the most dominant error in satellite navigation. Other error sources like satellite clock deviation and atmospheric effects for example can be compensated to a certain degree by the use of high-stability timing equipment (as for example the hydrogen maser in GIOVE-B represents)...
